Meet Shelley

Corporate brain. Spiritual heart. Zero tolerance for spiritual bullshit.

If I Can Learn This, So Can You.

For nearly thirty years, I lived in a world where logic ruled everything. My career in software and publishing trained my brain to solve problems, look for patterns, and make sure two plus two always equaled four.

Then Spirit showed up... and nothing fit into that equation anymore.

I wasn't born talking to dead people, and I certainly wasn't the kid who always knew I was psychic. If you'd told my younger self I'd one day become a professional medium, spiritual teacher, and ordained minister, I would have laughed in your face.

Instead, I questioned everything.

I second-guessed every experience. I wanted proof. I wanted logic. I wanted someone to explain why I was sensing things I couldn't explain.

Sound familiar?

That's exactly why I teach the way I do today.

I don't believe intuition belongs to a chosen few, and I certainly don't believe Spirit wants you dependent on someone else to tell you what your own soul already knows.

Yep... that's me shuffling oracle cards on my lunch break at work in 2021, before the famous hairdo.

My job isn't to impress you with what I can do. It's to help you recognize what you can do. Whether we're working together in a class, a mentoring session, or a reading, I want you to leave with more confidence in yourself than you had when you arrived.

In fact, I tell my students all the time that I want to work myself out of a job. That probably sounds like terrible business advice, but it's true. I don't want you to feel like you need me every time you have a question, want to connect with Spirit, or find yourself second-guessing your intuition. I want to help you build enough confidence in yourself that one day, you won't need me anymore.

Well... unless you just want to hang out and be my friend.

Real spiritual teaching isn't about creating dependence. It's about giving people the confidence to trust themselves long after the class is over, the reading has ended, or the mentoring session is complete.

And if someone as analytical, skeptical, and left-brained as me could learn to do that, I truly believe you can too.

Fun fact: This was the first day of the hairdo that somehow became my trademark.

My Approach to Spirituality

I believe spirituality should leave you feeling more empowered, not more afraid.

Intuition isn't a gift reserved for a chosen few. It's something we're all born with, but many of us were taught to ignore, dismiss, or second-guess along the way.

Questions are healthy. You don't have to shut off your logic or blindly accept what someone else tells you just because they're considered "spiritual." Curiosity isn't disrespectful—it's part of learning.

Fear is a powerful sales tool, and unfortunately, not everyone in the spiritual community uses it responsibly. If someone tries to scare you into depending on them, that's a good time to pause, ask questions, and trust your own discernment.

Most of all, I believe your relationship with Spirit should be exactly that—your relationship. My role is never to stand between you and Spirit. It's to help you build enough confidence that you trust your own connection long after we're done working together.

You don't have to believe what I believe. My hope is that our time together helps you discover what you believe.

Things You Should Probably Know About Me...

If we're going to spend time together, there are a few things you should probably know.

My house is happily overrun with rescued cats and one very spoiled dog, so don't be surprised if one of them decides to make a guest appearance during a Zoom session. Around here, animals are family, and fur is simply glitter in abundance.

I have ADHD and a wonderfully neurodivergent brain. It means I can connect dots that other people don't always see, but it also means I occasionally walk into a room and immediately forget why I went there. I may even forget that I promised to do something for you. If that happens, remind me. I never mind when someone reminds me because I know it's part of how my brain works. If you've ever done the same, we'll probably get along just fine.

I'm also a tea lover. Since I'm allergic to coffee (gasp), you'll almost always find me with a mug of tea nearby, whether I'm teaching a class, recording a podcast, or answering questions for Ask Auntie Shelley.

I laugh loudly, cry when something touches my heart, and believe spirituality doesn't have to be serious all the time. Some of the most profound healing happens when we can laugh, breathe, and remember we're all just humans trying to figure this life out together.

One of my favorite things is watching students become friends. That's just what happens when you spend enough time growing, learning, and occasionally laughing until you snort together.

And one last thing... I have absolutely no tolerance for fear tactics, gatekeeping, or anyone who tries to convince you they're the only person with the answers. My goal has never been to create followers. It's to help people trust themselves enough that they become the authority in their own spiritual lives.

Oh, shit... I almost forgot. I swear. Not excessively, but enough that you should probably know before signing up for a class or booking a session. It's not because I'm trying to be edgy. It's just that sometimes "well, that's unfortunate" doesn't quite cover the situation.

My coworkers eventually stopped asking questions. Are you surprised?

Yes... that's me striking a pose in a handmade by mom bathing suit. She even used a typewriter to label the photo. It was the '70s.

For Those Who Like Credentials...

Although I believe who you are matters more than the letters after your name, I also understand that experience and training matter.

I'm an ordained Spiritualist minister, medium, spiritual mentor, teacher, and founder of The Magical Medium. Over the past decade, I've worked with thousands of people through readings, mentoring, classes, workshops, podcasts, live events, and online communities.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching students from around the world through classes, workshops, mentoring, readings, podcasts, live events, and online communities. I've also been honored to collaborate with organizations such as The Wellness Universe and Women Writing Intentionally Collective.

But at the end of the day, the credential I'm most proud of isn't a certificate hanging on my wall.

It's hearing someone say, "I finally trust myself."
