How Do I Thank Spirit?

Gratitude Is the Greatest Offering

One of my readers recently asked a beautiful question:

"I've been talking to the Universe so much more lately and finally feel like we've found a good rhythm. I thank Spirit with water, food, and offerings, but how do I thank the Universe? Can we give energetic offerings to our Spirit Guides?"

I absolutely love this question because it tells me you've stopped seeing Spirit as something you only turn to when life falls apart. You've started building a relationship, and that's where the real magic begins.

My answer can be summed up in one word.

Gratitude.

No matter what your religious or spiritual background may be, gratitude is one of the most powerful offerings you can give. It doesn't cost anything. It doesn't require special tools, elaborate rituals, or expensive crystals. It simply requires your attention.

One of the easiest ways to begin is to do so before your feet ever touch the floor in the morning. Allow your first thought to be something like:

"Thank you, God. Thank you, Spirit. Thank you, Universe. Thank you for another day. Thank you for the breath in my body, the roof over my head, and the opportunity to continue moving forward in my highest good."

Use whatever word feels authentic to your own spiritual path. The words themselves matter far less than the sincerity behind them.

When you begin your day with gratitude, you're doing more than acknowledging what you've already received. You're setting the tone for everything that follows. Before the emails, the endless to-do list, and whatever fresh chaos the day has planned, you've already taken a moment to connect with something greater than yourself.

I also believe that consistency matters far more than extravagance.

People often ask if they need to leave elaborate offerings for Spirit. If that practice is meaningful to you, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Light a candle. Pour fresh water. Play music. Sit quietly in prayer or meditation. Those can all be beautiful expressions of devotion.

But don't mistake the ritual for the relationship.

The greatest offering has always been your presence.

Set aside a few minutes each day simply to say thank you. Speak from your heart. Tell Spirit about your day. Celebrate your victories. Admit your fears. Laugh. Cry. Sit in silence if that's what you need.

Relationships grow through consistency.

The same is true with Spirit.

In my experience, the energetic offering isn't found in how elaborate your ritual becomes. It's found in your willingness to keep showing up. Every time you choose connection over distraction, gratitude over fear, or trust over doubt, you're strengthening that relationship.

And I have a feeling your Spirit Guides are grateful for that, too.

May you always have food on your table, light in your life, and love in your heart.

After nearly three decades in the corporate world, she brings a refreshingly down-to-earth approach to intuition, Spirit communication, and personal growth.

Known for her humor, honesty, and occasional well-placed curse word, Shelley helps people reconnect with Spirit, trust their own intuition, and untangle the inherited beliefs and patterns that keep them feeling stuck. Through private sessions, classes, workshops, books, and her Ask Auntie Shelley column, her mission is simple: to help people stop looking outside themselves for all the answers and start recognizing the wisdom they've carried within them all along.

When she's not teaching or writing, you'll probably find her rescuing animals, posting far too many photos of her cats, or reminding people that Spirit isn't nearly as complicated as we've been taught to believe.
