I Want to Learn Mediumship. Where Do I Start?

One of my readers recently asked, "Are there any online courses for learning mediumship and healing arts?"

There certainly are. In fact, there are thousands.

The better question is...

How do you know which teacher is actually right for you?

That's where things get a little trickier.

There seems to be a universal misunderstanding that mediumship can be mastered in a weekend. Social media certainly doesn't help. You can scroll for five minutes and find someone promising to "activate your gifts" or "certify you as a medium" in just a few short lessons.

Having spent years developing my own abilities and completing hundreds of free practice readings, I can assure you that a handful of classes ain't gonna get you reading properly for other people.

Mediumship isn't a magic trick, and it isn't something another person can hand you. I explain it to my mediumship students like this: You don't wake up one morning and decide you're ready to run the Boston Marathon. You have to train. You have to build endurance. You have to prepare your body over time.

Mediumship works the same way. Your abilities develop through education, repetition, experience, and learning how Spirit communicates with you. The more you practice, the more fluent you become in your own symbolic language.

Mediumship isn't a gift. It's an ability.

Just as some people naturally pick up music or athletics more quickly than others, some people begin with a stronger awareness of Spirit. That doesn't mean everyone else is excluded. It simply means everyone starts from a different place, and abilities grow through practice.

When you're looking for a teacher, pay attention to how they make you feel.

  • Do they encourage curiosity?

  • Do they welcome questions?

  • Can they admit when they don't know something?

  • Or do they present themselves as the ultimate authority on Spirit?

Personally, I am uncomfortable with anyone who claims to have all the answers. Spirit is far too expansive for any one person to fully understand.

I'd also encourage you to pay attention to fear.

If someone spends more time convincing you how dangerous Spirit is than teaching you how to build a healthy relationship with it, I'd probably keep looking. Healthy spiritual development should leave you feeling more empowered, not more afraid.

Ethics matter just as much as ability. I want to know whether a teacher respects clients' free will, avoids sensational predictions, and demonstrates humility. Those qualities tell me far more than the number of followers they have online.

Finally, ask yourself what you're actually looking for. Are you hoping someone will validate experiences you've already had, or are you looking for an education that will help you continue growing for years to come? Validation feels wonderful in the moment, but education changes your life. The best teachers don't create students who depend on them forever. They help students learn to trust themselves.

That's always been my goal. Whether someone takes one class with me or spends years learning alongside me, I want them walking away believing in their connection with Spirit—not believing mine is somehow stronger than theirs.
